In unit 3, I am still working on my project Testament, with the topic highlighted by Albert Camus in The Myth of Sisyphus, “ There is but one truly serious philosophic problem and that is suicide.” The core concept of my project is still about death, identity, and dreams. Working on finding out the truth of why some people including me fancy death is like a process of reeling silk from cocoons which needs to be analyzed by lines. Therefore, while reading Camus to understand the concept of suicide or death from his perspective, I am also defining and writing death from my perspective by making Testament collections.
I use either the B-shot mode of DSLR cameras or underwater film cameras and experiment with double exposure of polaroid cameras to create blurry and multi-layer portraits to reveal my hidden identities through photographic language. Meanwhile, to bring digital works to physical, by trying out different printed materials, and sizes of works, and also by making photo books, I built up an ideally constructed storytelling world during the exhibitions in unit 3 that could be regarded as a self-utopia which carries my spiritual ideology towards—the relationship between death and self-fulfillment—the taboo culture in Chinese culture.
In unit 3, I continue my multi-disciplinary practice including fine art photography, documentary photography, underwater photography, commercial fashion photography, painting, creating jewelry with clay and stones, and is developing sound and videos works.
